BISP Scandal

Around 324 officials, from junior grades to senior ones, were involved in fake payments, including Rs13.72 million givenm using fake biometric verifications. Surprisingly, some payments were made to dead people, costing millions more.

The authorities are now recovering money from guilty officials’ salaries and have directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to file criminal cases and remove corrupt employees from
service.

The government also introduced biometric verification and regular audits to limit fake payments.
Despite these efforts, bigger frauds close to Rs141 billion have been exposed in BISP previously, showing systemic weaknesses.

To fix this, inactive beneficiary accounts are being monitored strictly and funds are reclaimed after nine months of noTransactions to reduce fraud risk.

The government is trying hard to make sure the aid reaches thereal poor and the system becomes stronger.
